Rogue Valley Community Health Worker

Duration: Full Time, Ongoing 

Compensation: $45,000-$55,000 per year depending on experience; generous and  progressive benefits including medical and dental care 100% of premiums paid by Unite  Oregon, paid wellness leave, vacation, flex time, and personal days off; technology  reimbursement; 4 hours personal time off/week, $300 annual FSA contribution, 2.5% 401K  contribution after 6 months.

Summary:  
Unite Oregon, Rogue Valley Chapter, is seeking a Promotor/a de Salud (Community Health  Worker) to implement our Promotor/a Program in the Rogue Valley. The Promotor/a de Salud  (Community Health Worker) works to implement Unite Oregon’s Promotor/a Program to improve  working conditions and raise awareness of workers' rights and the factors that lead to  occupational injuries and illnesses among forest workers as well as to assist forest workers and  their family members in addressing health and related issues affecting their quality of life. 

This includes working collaboratively with the Regional Director, the Promotor/a Program  Coordinator, and other staff, project partners, and volunteers on identifying topics forest workers  and their family members consider priorities; developing culturally and linguistically sensitive  educational materials on these topics; developing appropriate outreach and teaching methods;  and conducting outreach and education among forest workers and their family members. From  time to time, the position may also require gathering data on working conditions by conducting  field interviews with forest workers, administering questionnaires or using other data gathering  methods. The employee will be expected to maintain professional relationships with community  organizations, advocacy groups, and health clinics for the purpose of referring workers to them  when appropriate.

*Please Note: This position is funded for one year and is dependent on continued funding  through an obligated three-year federal grant. 

Job Duties: 

 Community Outreach & Education (40%) 

●     Conduct outreach to forest workers and their communities to raise awareness of the  program and its benefits. 

●     Facilitate individual and group sessions on occupational health, workers’ rights, disaster  preparedness, and accessing support services. 

Other duties as assigned. 

Required Qualifications: 

●     Minimum of two years’ experience in community organizing, particularly with low-income  or low-literacy populations. 

●     Strong written and verbal communication skills in Spanish.

●     Ability to work independently and manage time effectively. 

●     Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.

●     Must be a Rogue Valley Resident or have strong ties in the region.

●     Ability to work remotely, and to travel to meetings and events across the state. 

●     Must provide their own transportation. 

●     Willing to take Community Health Worker training and other training as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications: 

●     Bilingual and bicultural, with fluency in English and Spanish.

●     Lived experience as part of the Latino/Hispanic community.

●     Three or more years of grassroots community organizing experience.

●     Background in social justice work and experience engaging with diverse communities.

●     Proficiency with MS Office, email, video conferencing, and collaborative tools.

●     Familiarity with agriculture, forestry, and fire management issues in the western United States.
