Accountant

Position Title: Accountant 

Duration: Full Time

Compensation: $76,000 per year depending on experience; generous and progressive benefits including medical and dental care 100% of premiums paid by Unite Oregon, paid wellness leave, vacation, flex time, and personal days off; technology reimbursement; 4 hours personal time off/week, $300 annual FSA contribution, 2.5% 401K contribution after 6 months.

Position Description: The Staff Accountant is responsible for managing day-to-day accounting functions, ensuring compliance with grant and contract requirements, supporting audit readiness, and maintaining data accuracy across financial systems. This is a non-supervisory role that plays a critical role in Unite Oregon’s financial stewardship, transparency, and organizational sustainability. This position works closely with leadership and the program teams to ensure that financial information is accurate, timely, and aligned with the funder and regulatory requirements. This position requires the ability to travel locally and to have reliable transportation. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Manage day-to-day accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, journal entries, and monthly financial close 

  • Prepare timely and accurate financial reports for leadership and internal stakeholders

  • Track restricted and unrestricted funds and ensure compliance with grant and contract requirements 

  • Prepare financial reports and reimbursement requests for government and foundation funders 

  • Support annual audits and maintain documentation for compliance and reporting

  • Ensure accuracy and consistency of financial and donor data across systems

  • Conduct regular data quality checks and resolve discrepancies 

  • Support improvements to financial processes, internal controls, and documentation

  • Collaborate with program and development staff to support accurate reporting and data entry 

  • Collaborate within regional teams to implement program objectives and goals, making adjustments as needed

Ideal Candidate: 

  • Has 3+ years of education, experience, or a combination of education and experience, in accounting, finance, or a related field 

  • Has 3+ years of experience with nonprofit accounting and grant-funded programs 

  • Is proficient with software tools (MIP, QuickBooks, EveryAction, or similar)

  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail and organizational skills 

  • Is a creative problem solver who enjoys collaborating with others

  • Has the ability to manage multiple deadlines

  • Has experience with government grants and contracts

  • Has experience supporting audits or compliance reviews

  • Skilled in self-reflection and generative conflict

  • Has a reliable and independent mode of transportation
