Position Title: Lead Organizer, Northern Oregon
Duration: Full Time, Ongoing
Compensation: $52,000-$55,000 per year depending on experience; generous and progressive benefits including medical and dental care 100% of premiums paid by Unite Oregon, paid wellness leave, vacation, flex time, and personal days off.

We believe that all people can become leaders and agents of change in the areas of racial justice, immigrant and refugee rights, affordable housing, and living wages. Unite Oregon is building a unified intercultural movement for justice in our state.
Unite Oregon is seeking an experienced, culturally responsive Lead Organizer based out of the Multnomah County office to lead organizing and engagement of our Multnomah County and Washington County and chapters and Leadership Development programs. This position will report to the Field Director and Executive Director.
Responsibilities, in collaboration with organizing staff, are as follows:
Field Organizing and Community Engagement
- Manage Multnomah and Washington County field programs and support regional organizer to implement field plans
- Coordinate and manage new canvassing program in East Portland
- Recruit new Multnomah County Leadership Council members as needed, maintaining a balanced diversity of members
- Assist in fundraising and recruiting members to lead our work
Program Development, Execution, and Oversight
- Work with team to develop organizing plans in order to best integrate organizing efforts with leadership development curriculum and involve Unite Oregon leaders
- Develop and implement local issue campaigns that support statewide campaigns
Leadership Development Programs
- Work in a team setting to lead and implement Unite Oregon’s immigrant and refugee leadership development programs in Multnomah County and Washington County
- Recruit participants and arrange the admissions process
- Plan and implement curriculum and coordinate outside facilitators
- Work with graduates and participants to assure they are involved in current campaigns
- Broker relationships with our leadership development partners/funders
- Assist in reporting outcomes to funders
The ideal candidate will have:
- 3-5 years experience in community organizing, facilitation, curriculum development, and issue advocacy
- A working knowledge of community and coalition organizing, grassroots leadership development, issue and political campaigns, and traditional and new communications strategies
- Knowledge of and cultural competency with immigrant and refugee, low-income, people of color, rural and LGBTQ communities
- Experience with databases or willingness to learn
- Understanding of the structural nature of power and inequity and a well-developed and articulate racial analysis.
- Strong communication skills
- Bilingual and bicultural: especially (but not limited to) Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Vietnamese, and/or Somali preferred but not required
- Ability to travel to meetings and events across the state
- Availability to work during evenings and weekends as needed
