Maria Luna is the newest member of the BUILD program. She brings her experience as a parent and advocate of twins who attend Madison High School to her current position as a Community Education Workers in Harrison Park, Vernon, and Roseway Height Middle Schools.
Maria has 3 kids that currently attend Portland Public Schools and one attending the University of Oregon. Maria has lived in Oregon for 23 years. She was born in Mexico but went on to learn English at Portland Community College by taking ENNL (English as a Non-Native Learner) and finished her GED. Maria has been involved in her kid’s education since her oldest daughter started first grade. She’s been engaged in the PTA, DPAC, and Site Council committees. Along with her parent involvement through BUILD, she personally understands how hard it is to navigate the school system. She’s very excited to support other parents through the BUILD program and believes that when parents are involved in their kids education, they tend to escalate to a higher level of education.
