Finance Associate - Unite Oregon

The Finance Associate works closely with the Finance and Administration Director and Manager, Organizing and Development Departments to support and manage the finance and development work. This position assists with creation of and improvement of financial analytical tools and forecasts to support program managers and all staff for both the Unite Oregon (501c3) and Unite Oregon Action (501c4). The Finance Associate will also assist the Development and Grant Director with donor record and grant management.

Unite Oregon is a 501c3 grassroots community organization with three chapters in northern and southern Oregon. We support people to become leaders and agents of change in the areas of living wages, racial justice, immigrant and refugee rights, and affordable housing. Unite Oregon is building a unified intercultural movement for justice in Oregon.

Position Description

The Finance Associate works closely with the Finance and Administration Director and Manager, Organizing and Development Departments to support and manage the finance and development work. This position assists with creation of and improvement of financial analytical tools and forecasts to support program managers and all staff for both the Unite Oregon (501c3) and Unite Oregon Action (501c4). The Finance Associate will also assist the Development and Grant Director with donor record and grant management. 

General Finance Responsibilities

  • Maintain organizational Grant Index, the central location for grant and contract revenue; Work with Development and Organizing staff to update as needed. Work closely with the Finance Director and Coordinator to support financial reporting processes and accounting .
  • Support the Finance Director and Manager and Field Director and Grant Director to provide all relevant grant and contract information that supports achieving deliverables.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Primary Finance Responsibilities

Prepare Budgets

Finance associates assist with the Finance department’s yearly operating budget. This includes developing, analyzing, and interpreting statistical and accounting information to evaluate operating results in terms of profitability and performance against budget.

 

Compile Financial Reports

Finance Associate helps prepare reports that outline the UO’s financial position regarding income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and future operations. This includes revising and updating reports to be more useful and efficient and furnishing external reports as necessary.

Assist with Audits

Finance Associate assists with audits, reviews, and tax preparation. They closely examine financial and accounting records, compile data, and conduct financial reviews and audits. 

Compliance Assistance

Finance associates help develop and implement policies, procedures, and best practices for UO’s financial and accounting operations and for general compliance.  

 

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Fluency in accounting principles for non-profits and strong core account management skills
  • One year of accounting experience 
  • Commitment to racial justice and passion to champion Unite Oregon’s mission
  • One or more years in manager role supporting administration and work planning
  • Proficiency in cloud-based document sharing and editing

 

Prefered Skills

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with a diverse, multicultural staff, board, membership, and partners of various backgrounds
  • Bilingual or Multilingual 

Position will be based in Portland, OR.

Salary dependent on experience: $50,000-$53,000. Generous and progressive benefits including medical and dental care, 100% of premiums paid, paid wellness leave, vacation, flex time, and personal days off.
