Clackamas Community Organizer - Unite Oregon

Unite Oregon is seeking a culturally responsive community organizer to outreach and educate immigrants, refugees, and people of color in Clackamas County around vaccinations and other health equity related work. The focus of this position will be to assist in community organizing efforts in health equity, including training and outreach to communities most impacted by COVID-19. This position will report to the Clackamas County Chapter Director.

Position Title: Community Organizer 

Duration: Full Time, One - Year Limited Duration with possibility to extend
Compensation: $42,500 - 46,000 per year depending on experience; generous and progressive benefits including medical and dental care 100% of premiums paid by Unite Oregon, paid wellness leave, vacation, flex time, and personal days off.

Position Description

Unite Oregon is seeking a culturally responsive community organizer to outreach and educate immigrants, refugees, and people of color in Clackamas County around vaccinations and other health equity related work. The focus of this position will be to assist in community organizing efforts in health equity, including training and outreach to communities most impacted by COVID-19. This position will report to the Clackamas County Chapter Director.

This is a full-time position for one year with the possibility to extend beyond the initial year. 

Responsibilities, in collaboration with organizing staff, are as follows:

Project Management

Vaccine Education and Outreach

  • Communicate vaccine eligibility to community members
  • Assist community members in accessing vaccine
  • Develop strategies to address vaccine hesitancy within immigrant, refugee, and communities of color in Clackamas County 
  • Ongoing activities to increase knowledge & access to vaccines, including creating and distributing culturally responsive vaccine education materials/flyers translated into multiple languages  and invite our membership to participate in trainings and educational sessions 
  • Hold virtual informational workshops with bilingual staff and/or multiple translators (Spanish, Burmese, Nepali, Arabic, etc.) and public health professionals from the communities we serve
  • Attend meetings with the Oregon Health Authority
  • Participate in Unite Oregon staff meetings, retreats, and board meetings as needed
  • Assist in communication support for the project both internally and externally via social media, email, phone, newsletters, earned media, etc. 

 

Field Organizing and Community Engagement

  • Recruit volunteers, maintain regular email and social media engagement with Clackamas County members
  • Support Leadership Council in health equity advocacy work

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to work independently and take initiative, while maintaining solid communication with and accountability to the Executive Director, Chapter Directors, and direct supervisor.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and record keeping skills
  • Strong facilitation and training skills
  • Ability to put together curriculum for outreach and education
  • Proficient with technology including word processing, powerpoint, spreadsheets, social media
  • Anti-oppression, anti-racism, diversity, equity and inclusion work experience
  • Availability to work during evenings and weekends as needed

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • At least one year experience in grassroots community organizing or campaigns
  • At least one year experience working on health equity issues and policies 
  • Bilingual and bicultural. Preferred but not required
  • Strong interest in increasing community access to vaccines and information related to COVID-19
  • Clackamas County resident and/or strong ties and history in the region
  • Ability to work remotely and to travel to meetings and events across the County, Portland, Salem, and Medford as necessary
