A step toward justice: three men found guilty of murdering Ahmaud Arbery

A jury has found the three men guilty of murdering Ahmaud Arbery last year, all of which face sentences of up to life in prison for the state crimes. Ahmaud Arbery’s mother, Wanda Cooper-Jones, said today's result felt impossible in 2020 , when earlier prosecutors assigned to the case argued that the shooting did not constitute a crime. “To tell you the truth, I never saw this day back in 2020,” she said. “I never thought this day would come, but God is good. Thank you — thank you for those who marched, those who prayed.”

Today we keep Ahmaud Arbery’s family and friends in our thoughts and hope that this verdict will bring them some degree of peace. Today we also acknowledge that real justice would be Ahmaud Arbery at home with his family. Unite Oregon remains committed to fighting against this unjust, racist, and violent justice system. Nothing will bring Ahmaud Arbery back. It's a sigh of relief to see justice served. Rest in peace brother, our prayers with the Arbery family.
