Today, we are proud to say that Unite Oregon is the largest organization in the state led by Black, Indigenous,
and People of Color, immigrants and refugees, rural communities, and members across the Oregonian social
spectrum. With more than 22,000 members and supporters, we work across the state to build a unified intercultural
movement for justice.
In 2001, The Center for Intercultural Organizing was created by a small group of refugees and immigrants in
response to anti-Muslim, immigrant, and refugee sentiment in the wake of the 9/11 attacks. Unite Oregon was built
by diverse groups, determined to fight injustice and to celebrate diversity for what it truly is – the strength of this
country. Unite Oregon represents the merger of two strong organizations – Center for Intercultural Organizing
(CIO) and Oregon Action (OA) – who together have decades of experience organizing immigrants, refugees,
People of Color, and low-income Oregonians to address racial and economic disparities and improve quality of life in
our state.

With new leadership, a recently completed Strategic Plan, and strong staff the organization is poised to continue
supporting communities who have encountered many extreme hardships,
from the COVID-19 pandemic, loss of economic opportunities and
housing, to the wildfires. In the past year, the organization maintained its
growth to better serve our communities. We worked on securing stable
funding for our programs, and we increased the number of staff by more
than 50%. We will continue on the same path in the next biennium to
bring forward a bold vision and innovative solutions to eliminate the
disparities that exist for communities of color.
