Portland Immigrant Rights Coalition Stands By Dreamers

Portland, OR --- Unite Oregon is a proud member of the Portland Immigrant Rights Coalition. This week PIRC denounces the Trump administration’s relentless attack on our immigrant community. Attorney General Jeff Sessions, on behalf of the Trump Administration this week announced the decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program that  impacts over 11,000 young undocumented immigrants here in Oregon. Nationwide there are about 800,000 DACA recipients who will be affected by the Trump Administration’s decision. Though DACA does not provide legal status to the young undocumented immigrants, it does however allow eligible young people to work and attend school.

We demand:

-- That DACA be maintained alongside genuine immigration reform that will protect all immigrants, including those who are DACA-ineligible.

-- That the US government uplift the dignity and worth of all immigrant communities regardless of their career or education trajectories.

-- That immigrant communities deserve a life of determination and respect.

-- That there must be a genuine resolution of the inequities and obstacles faced by immigrants especially criminalization of U.S. borders.

-- That the US government create an equitable pathway to just immigration and permanent protection for immigrants until immigration reform is achieved.

Get active!

We call on our communities to stand against Trump’s anti-immigrant and racist agenda and link up with other immigrant communities who are also struggling for their rights and welfare with these actions:

-- Stand together in solidarity with our compatriots for justice around the nation.

-- If you are an organization committed to immigrant rights -- join the PIRC Coalition.

-- If you are a human rights advocate - join an action group and call your Congressional lawmakers -- especially Oregon Rep. Greg Walden -- to demand real rights for our families. (Walden is Oregon’s only Republican member of Congress and also the only one to oppose DACA. Rep. Walden's Washington DC office number is 202-225-6730, in Medford, 541-776-4646; La Grande, 541-624-2400 and in Bend, 541-389-4408).

-- If you would like to report attacks on immigrant communities and threats of deportation call the PIRC Rapid Response Hotline: 1(888) 622-1510.
